Summary & Analysis
As you’ll see in the latest data produced by our local organization, our real estate market is showing signs of life. New listings, pending sales and closed sales are all up significantly from the month before, but still down significantly compared to the year before.
Total market time has dropped 14 days, and our inventory has fallen slightly, to 1.6 months of inventory.
What does this all mean? The Portland metro market remains surprisingly stable, even in the face of raising interest rates and economic headwinds. If you’re thinking about selling, it’s still a strong market- as long as you price your property well. If you’re thinking about buying, you’ll jump into a market that’s tamer than it’s been in the last few years.

Fair Housing Month
April is recognized as Fair Housing Month in the United States. This annual event serves as a reminder of the importance of fair housing practices and the ongoing work to ensure that everyone has equal access to housing opportunities. The Fair Housing Act, signed into law in 1968, prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of housing based on various protected characteristics.
Despite the progress made since the passage of the Fair Housing Act, discrimination still persists in the housing market. Individuals and families continue to face discrimination based on their race, religion, national origin, disability, and other protected characteristics. This discrimination can take various forms, such as steering, redlining, and the denial of reasonable accommodations.
|
|
|
Steering is when real estate professionals direct homebuyers or renters to certain neighborhoods based on their race, ethnicity, or other protected characteristic. Redlining refers to the practice of denying or limiting access to credit, insurance, or other financial services in certain neighborhoods based on their racial or ethnic composition. The denial of reasonable accommodations involves refusing to make reasonable changes or adjustments to a home or apartment to accommodate a person with a disability.
Fair Housing Month is an opportunity to raise awareness about these forms of discrimination and to promote fair housing practices. Fair housing advocates and organizations use the month to promote education and outreach initiatives, including seminars, workshops, and other events designed to educate the public about fair housing rights and responsibilities.
Fair Housing Month is an essential reminder of the ongoing fight for civil rights and the need to ensure that everyone has equal access to housing opportunities. It's a time to celebrate the progress made in advancing fair housing rights and to recommit to the ongoing work of ending discrimination in housing. By promoting education and outreach initiatives, we can continue to raise awareness about fair housing practices and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to live in a safe, affordable, and discrimination-free home.
