Stone Soup PDX is a non-profit restaurant and job development program founded in 2018 that empowers people in the Portland area experiencing poverty, homelessness, and other barriers to employment
through hands-on job skills development in the foodservice industry.
This year, like all businesses, Stone Soup faced challenges; the restaurant/food industry was hit particularly hard. Since March, Stone Soup capitalized on their partnerships to provide meals to those in need of support by coordinating and cooking meals for Physical Distancing Shelters set up by Multnomah County. Since the inception of their shelter meal program, the network of restaurants has provided over 190,000 meals. Moreover, they turned their small lunch counter (25 covers per day) into a full-scale production kitchen, now preparing over 1,500 meals a week to the houseless community.
