Constructing Hope

Simply put, Constructing Hope is doing great things. Their mission is to rebuild the lives of people in our community by encouraging self-sufficiency through skills training and education in the construction industry. They help people of color, unemployed people, the formerly incarcerated and low-income individuals re-enter the workforce and attain middle-class wages. They are addressing diversity in the workforce to produce systemic change.

Participants are:

80% unemployed
100% low-income (individual & family)
70% people of color
70% criminal justice system affected

Even while dealing with the challenges of Covid-19, they were able to graduate 30 pre-apprenticeship trainees. 80% of their Winter 2020 class went to work, and they provided $24,000 in support to their students and graduates.

Treat Yourself this Valentine's Day!

This month, we're highlighting three local businesses that provide amazing treats right in time for Valentine's Day.

Ecovibe
For all things plants! Ecovibe has a wide variety of plants, planters, home decor, candles, barware, and bath and body. They support local designers and donate 1% of their online sales to local nonprofit - 1% For The Planet which gives back to environmental causes. They are open for in-store, curbside pickup and online shopping.

Amalfi's Restaurant
One of the first restaurants to bring pizza to Portland, Amalfi's is still serving up amazing Italian comfort food 50+ years later. Their restaurant is currently open for outdoor seating, take-out, and delivery. We recommend their Mercato for house-made foods, grab-n-go pastas, salads, pizzas, and wines for a perfect date night.

Sugar Street Bakery & Bistro
For all things sweet, look no further than Sugar Street! They have cakes and cupcakes with vegan and vegetarian options and are available for special orders. They also have a bistro menu with breakfast and lunch options. Bonus: They're a female + minority-owned company!
